Thanks! A friend of mine saw this picture and said "ummm I think you photoshopped it too much on the right top, it's too blue" and when I told her that I didn't photoshop it, or even know how to photoshop it she told me I needed to learn so I could "correct that blue in the corner"! Obviously I let it alone (personally I think the blue looks sure cool)....

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a small island in Fiji called Nanunya Island. This is actually the very same island where the movie “The Blue Lagoon” was shot. The island is accessible only by boat or a seaplane and has no roads of any kind on it! At the time this photo was taken (and possibly still to this day) the island was owned solely by the native people who Iive there. There was only one “hotel” on it with only 12 Bulas (cabins) available making it very quiet and peaceful....

Time

Taken as the sun was setting and a rain cloud was moving right in front of it (making for a gorgeous shot).

Lighting

The Sunsets on this island were always spectacular but hard to photograph with a plain point and shot digital camera. The rain cloud blocking out the sun in this picture was what allowed me to get a shot of the sunset without the brightness of the sun ruining the photo.

Equipment

No high tech gear or expensive camera was used, just a plain digital Canon Powershot with less megapixels than a new IPhone!

Inspiration

The gorgeous colors of the sunsets on this small island in Fiji would inspire anyone to photograph them. The rain cloud and the colors it produced during this particular sunset were just begging to be photographed!

Editing

While it APPEARS that I might have altered the lighting on this photo, in actuality this photo is completely unedited!

In my camera bag

Honestly I don’t carry a bag of equipment. Part of the reason for this is the lack of money to BUY an expensive camera and expensive equipment to shoot with. The other reason is that I truly believe the most beautiful and inspirational photographs do not NEED special equipment or a fancy camera. True beauty doesn’t need to be adjusted or edited and can be captured with a simple digital camera kept in a pocket or purse.

Feedback

Not all great photographs require expensive cameras and equipment. If you cannot afford all the expensive technology used by most professional photographers that does NOT mean you cannot take a great photograph! Even if you can afford this equipment you may not always have it with you or easily accessible. Never pass up a great shot because you think your camera and equipment isn’t “good” enough. True beauty doesn’t need to be captured with the most expensive camera with all the bells and whistles, it just needs to be captured. Always be ready by having a camera of some sort with you, you never know when an opportunity to get a great shot will happen!
