Location
The place is sited in a small mountain on Capo Ferrato, precisely in Monte Liuru, Muravera (CA), in SardiniaTime
I went there for the sunset and was waiting for the blue hour to start to shoot, and i was helped by the moon for lightpainting the pyramid rock.Lighting
For the outside the moon was very helpful and helped me to have a perfect illumination on the rock and the landscape as well. Inside the rock i set up a small campfire to give a little touch of warmth at the picture, it was really hard a the beginning because it's an open place and the wind blows often in there, but luckily it settle and i've started to shoot my 200 exposure at 30 second each, f/4 800 ISO on 14mm lense.Equipment
I used a Nikon D700 + mb d10 , samyang 14mm 2.8, manfrotto 190xprob + 804rc2 head and Triggertrap on my Iphone to set up the startrailInspiration
I was looking for a differend startrail including a campfire inside some cave rock and the place was really the one that i want! With this place I win a pubblication on the panobook 2014, taking from the other side a 12 shoot panorama, and call the picture Modor, because it looks like Modor from the lord of the rings, so the LOTR inspired me to take this photo!Editing
yes, I've used PS CS6 applying at every single image on Camera Raw 7 the same settings and saved in a folder, then opened in the same layer on Adobe Bridge to Photoshop, used lighter color as blending mode to each layer, then adjusted some frames with trails of airplanes to make look the scene more natural possible, merged all the layers and work with color efex pro 4 to give some tonal contrast and work separately on the pyramid with some warmth. In my camera bag
Nikon D700 + mb d10 , samyang 14mm 2.8, nikkor 24-85 f/2.8-4 AF-D, Nikkor Macro 105mm f/2.8 AF-D, manfrotto 190xprob + 804rc2 head, Nikon sb 800, Lee Big Stopper, Lee GND 0.9 Hard, Lee GND 0.6 soft, Triggertrap as remote shutter on IphoneFeedback
Be creative, this is more then half of the picture. find better places that haven't been photographed yet in some kind of condition (milky way, startrail, moonlight, sunset etc etc), settings are very important as well, so take few different composition and try different settings until you find the perfect spot, and enjoy the place.
