Fabulous shot! I never did get a good shot of this. We arrived too late in the morning and the sun was already half way down the rocks and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. You always see sunrise pics of this spot but I really like the subtle colors of the sunset. The light brings out the colors in the rocks beautifully and the blue of the river contrasts perfectly. Very well done!!! If I ever get back I think I will try sunset myself!!! What time of year was this?

Location
This is Horseshoe Bend, just outside of Page, AZ.Time
It was nearing sunset when I took this.Lighting
I used the natural light. It made the rocks darken because of the angle.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 body with a fish eye lens to enhance the natural curve of the horizon. As it is not a full frame body, the fish eye distortion isn't too exaggerated.Inspiration
It was so awesome in real life! It is a heavily photographed location, but despite that, I wanted to take a picture of it to remember the feeling of standing on the edge of that massive sight.Editing
I actually merged two exposures of this to create the image because the setting sun was far more interesting in a different shot. They were not bracketed though so the angle was slightly different, making it challenging. I then touched it up in photoshop. In my camera bag
I usually have a D7000 (and now a d3x) body, 24-70- 18-24, and a 70-200, along with a flashlight, a tripod, and a shutter release.Feedback
Be patient. Wait for the lighting you want. Be assertive and get the view you want without being rude about it. And share the opportunity if it is heavily visited. Don't hog it ;-)
