Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while biking to Konteh, a small village located in the central river region of The Gambia, West Africa. Konteh is located 10 km off of the main road.

Time

This photo was taken in the mid-morning around 10-11 am.

Lighting

No additional lighting was needed, as it was a bright sunny day with not a cloud in the sky.

Equipment

This was shot with a FujiFlim FinePix JX420 and no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The surreal feeling of being the only person around surrounded by nothing but endless amounts of sand had me stopping my bike and fishing out my camera so I could capture this magical moment.

Editing

No post-processing was done with this photo.

In my camera bag

A lesson that I learned early is to always have a spare set of batteries and memory card on me; you never know when you might need them. My go to camera is my Canon EOS Rebel XTi but I have my Canon PowerShot D20 ready when I'm near/in water or feel like playing with the different modes.

Feedback

This was a random moment in time that caught my eye and not something that was premeditated. So, as far as giving advice I would have to say, slow down and keep your eyes open. These moments are hidden in our everyday lives so don't rush through life getting from one place to another. Also always have a camera on you to catch these jewels.
