I knew this surfer wasn't going to stick around too long, so I quickly bumped the ISO up to 1250 and opened up the f-stop to f-4 to freeze his silhouette.

If you shoot here, watch your left as incoming waves accelerate up this channel and can really sneak up on you.

A popular composition is to get low and center the three frontmost pots in the very foreground. I'll post that version later.

An unplanned and different take on the Flickr-popular 'The Potholes' in La Jolla, California. With my tripod set up for some landscape photography, a surfer popped into the scene and immediately became my mid ground subject.
