Behind The Lens

Location

The photos taken in my garden. I’m self taught photographer and photography is my passion. I makes me to relax and is kind of escape from daily things to the world of magic seen by me.

Time

It was a very late afternoon. After busy day at work, I desperately needed some relax, so I took my camera and walked thru my garden looking for some inspiration for macro photos. And I found this strange looking mushroom and two small snails slowly moving around it.

Lighting

There was a natural nice light from setting sun. Few moments before, the place was watered, so I had a nice bokeh around wetted grass.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon 800e with 105 mm 2.8 lens. I also used tripod

Inspiration

I was looking to capture some late summer flowers, when I notice those two snails which seemed to me to have fun playing hide and seek. One of the snails was always on the top, when another was moving around the mushroom.

Editing

Usually my post processing is limited to colour and contrast balance and some luminosity masks . For this particular photo I had to take and merge two photos to have both snails in focus.

In my camera bag

The first thing I always pack is my Nikon d800 body equipped with Nikkor 24-70mm lens. Then depending on the nature of photography I either took Nikkor 105 mm or 14-24 mm. I almost always carry my tripod and some ND filters. You never know when you need them :).

Feedback

Be patient and look around, interesting subjects can be very closed. Although I mainly love landscape photography, I’m also a mother, and many times can’t travel far away and spent hours waiting for the good lighting conditions, etc. So I’m trying to find something interesting nearby. Immediately I notice a perfect light, I grab my camera and run out looking for inspiration.
