This is kendal castle in cumbria, basically the start of the lake district the further north you go the nicer it getsTime
Ive been photographing the castle for about a year and still havnt found the one shot that really shows it at its true colours. This image is late afternoon when there was low cloud so rushed well i say rushed still had to climb the hill, got a few different angles but likes the clouds in this oneLighting
Light was fairly flat, but i new i wanted long exposure so it was all about the clouds, also helped as there were people wondering about so the long exposure sorted that out, i did take some other shots of differently light parts of the castle but i wasnt sure it worked well blended.Equipment
This was shot with my nikon d3200 and the kit lense, at 18mm with a nd filter and mounted on a tripod, my gear is slowly upgrading as and when, but the kit lense isnt that bad for quality, my recent xmas brought me a new sigma 10-20mm so this is my preferred lense at the minuteInspiration
I noticed and researched photos on the castle and trying to find something new and fresh is very hard, the castle has to been seen to understand really, i tried sunsrises sunsets, long exposures ive shot around the whole castle at different times of year and day, dont get me wrong a have a few nice images of the castle but im still waiting for that magical one that has the wow factor, but thats a story for when it happens, this is one of my favourite of the castle and is really the only decent bit that remains of the castleEditing
Converted to black and white, white balance and levels, also a touch of dodge and burning to give the castle characterIn my camera bag
I have spare batteries, memory cards, zoom lense, and a 50mm, cleaning gear, flash gun, remotes, filters,usually take the load with me, unless im off on a walk i try to minimize luggage.Feedback
The only thing i would say is focus on a shot and dont stop until you have the wow one, thats when photography pays off, im no profession but sometimes a surprize my self, sometimes its a case of right time right place.
