The rubber tree was introduced to Phuket, Thailand, at the start of the century. Rubber plantations once covered forty percent of Phuket. There are still rubber plantations on Phuket but as building continues plantations make way for housing estates and other developments. Many of these farmers still work their plantations as they did 50 years ago.

You can recognise rubber plantations by the regimented rows of trees. If you rise early enough you can watch the rubber tappers at work.
