So this is one picture from a series called "Enchanted". I REALLY enjoyed doing all of the photos, and I hope you guys love it too!! I really liked the idea of making teacups and teapots levitate, but I still wanted to keep liquid in most of them.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside in my backyard of my old house in Savannah Georgia.

Time

I took this in the evening at 5:37 about an hour before the sun would set so that the lighting wasn't harsh.

Lighting

If I'm taking photos outdoors I usually wait until late in the evening for that "Golden Hour" lighting. It adds a softness to the photo that you would lose if you shot it in harsher lighting.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Canon Rebel T3i with a 50mm lens at a 1.2 aperture mounted on a tripod and edited in Adobe Photoshop.

Inspiration

I've always had a fascination with surreal photography and making teacups and teapots levitate was a fun and easy way for me to explore that for myself.

Editing

Shots like this take a good bit of post processing. To make the tea pot "levitate" I have to take two pictures with the camera in the same position (I suggest a tripod). The first picture consists of nothing but the empty scene, the second photo contains me holding the teapot. In Photoshop I layer the second photo on top of the first and mask out the bits and pieces of my arm and hand until the teapot appears to be levitating. Voila!

In my camera bag

If I'm carrying my basics I always have my cannon 6D with two lenses, the first a 50mm at f/1.8 and the second a 75-300mm at f/4-5.6. On top of that I carry an extra battery, my charger, and a macro extension tube!

Feedback

A really important key when trying to make objects levitate with this method is the angle you hold your object at. You'll find tilting your object in certain ways can take advantage of perspective and hide most of your hand. The more of these photos you do the better you'll get at them, so keep trying!
