Location
This was taken in Bass Lake, CA during a shoot dedicated to highlighting the beautiful girls of the Fresno areaTime
The shot was taken at around 2:30 in the afternoonLighting
We used the natural shadows from her angle and the reflective light from the water for the perfect balance.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon T3i (still my favorite after all of these years!) and the "Nifty Fifty" 50mm Canon EF lensInspiration
This was our second day of shooting, and we were all tired and decided to take a break. Lynn decided to swim a bit and I got in with her. She came up out of the water and looked absolutely amazing! I asked her to stay just like that and had my assistant hand me the camera. We were both treading water as we took the shot!Editing
Very minimal post processing. I lowered the temperature slightly to better reflect the tone. Everything else was on-camera.In my camera bag
Canon 5D3, Canon 70D, Canon T3i, 50mm Sigma lens, 50mm Canon lens, 70-200 Canon lens, and plain Strawberry TwizzlersFeedback
It helps to find a model as beautiful as Lynn! Aside from that, having the sun off to the side prevents sun spots and the model having to squint, especially in the middle of the afternoon! It also allows for some interesting shadows for a more natural beauty look, as opposed to what you would achieve with reflectors or a strobe. Just like outdoor head shots, showing a hint of the background or setting helps with both setting a frame of reference and providing contrast for your subject.
