Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the road off the main A47 to a pretty village with a watermill called lyng in norfolk.

Time

it was late in the afternoon in november between 3 and 4 o'clock and i had been to the village to get some shots of the mill, water and the main river.

Lighting

The sun was still bright but getting low in the sky causing nice shadows and that nice golden glow showing off the autumn colours well.

Equipment

It was shot with a nikon d50 with an 18-55 kit lens the iso was 280 rev f5.6 1/125 on a tripod this was my first digital camera which i had had for a while and have shot hundreds of photos with.

Inspiration

I had finished my shoot at the mill and surrounding area and was on my way home when drove past this gateway.I saw how the trees and drive flowed away from you and thought wow ,i backed the car up and got my gear out and started shooting. I tried several shots from high to low trying to get a nice uniform view to lead you into the picture the sun making the colours of the trees leaves and grass leap out at you.

Editing

I always shoot in raw so no detail is lost and with this shot just slight sharpening tweak levels and crop if required.

In my camera bag

I always have my d50 although its an entry level camera it gives amazing results my 18-55 lens and70-300 zoom ,nissin flash and tripod .i have up graded to a nikon d300 and nikon 24-70 2.8 but still use the trusty d50.

Feedback

Go out and about and just look around there are a lot of places close to home be mindful of the light early morning and late afternoon are some of the best times for that golden glow to make the colours stand out. Shoot your subject from various positions to see which looks best here in norfolk we have lovely locations and glorious light conditions thats also why so many people paint up here.
