This is so gorgeous..love it. They look so
graceful and so gentle yet they can kill with one kick or a whammy with their neck.
Great shot TY.

Location
I was walking in one of our local nature reserves, the Riverside Estate, a stones throw from where I live in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa; when i spotted a family of giraffes spying at me from within the bushes.Time
They kept on poking their heads above and around the bushes. I watched them in awe, as this was a new experience for me. They grouped and grazed, from the bushes and lush grass. they spied me as a curiosity. Click. As they moved (over a hundred yards from where it was) i shot off frames in my camera.. That was exciting! I wanted to watch, yet my camera needed action ! The time of the day was late afternoon at 17:07, looking into the dipping sun on the 8th of December 2013.Lighting
I had no control over the background lighting, although i was not shooting into the sun.Equipment
Shot with my Pentax K-30, with a 18-135mm zoom lens extended to 88mm at f8, 1/125sec at ISO200Inspiration
i was governed by excitement, as it was my first experience, of this sort of thing. i didnt know when to watch and when to shoot, so i watched through the lens, and shot, rapidly. i framed as well as i could, as they were some distance away.Editing
i re-framed and cropped the image to get a more pleasing composition, not muchIn my camera bag
I have a Pentax K-30 digital camera with a 18-135mm zoom lens and 32Gb data card. That is my primary equipment, although i carry, two spare batteries, an extra 16Gb data card, as well as an old (1970) manual Pentax SuperTakumar 55mm macro lens with a bayonet adapter (just "in case").Feedback
PreSet your settings on rapid fire and shoot while watching, else you miss the perfect shot. You can always delete afterwards.... :)
