Behind The Lens

Location

At Patrick's Point State Park, on the north coast of California.

Time

Late afternoon.

Lighting

This is a backlit scenario, with bright skies and very dark shadows.

Equipment

Pentax K-5, Pentax M 20 f4 lens, Feisol tripod, 10 stop B+W ND filter

Inspiration

The dramatic coast and the special light.

Editing

Brought up the shadows in post.

In my camera bag

Pentax K-5iis, Pentax DA 15 f4 limited, standard zoom lens, other specialty lenses and filters as needed

Feedback

For long exposure shots, you need very dark ND filter --- nine stops or more. Such filters are too dark to focus using viewfinder. You have to focus ahead of time and then put the filter on the lens. Or shoot with an older prime with hyper focal markings, as done with this image.
