At home in my back Yard. I was looking for some interesting subjects for macro shots, there are always opportunities close at hand with regards to macro photography. You never have to look too far.Time
I remember it being late afternoon when I took this shot. I had only just got my first Macro lens and with fading light, only had time to look around my back yard.Lighting
Being a learner at that stage, I really had no idea about the secrets and the importance of lighting. This particular shot was a real revelation for me. It was a good shot with natural light, but with flash it took the shot to a whole new level.Equipment
This particular shot was taken on a Canon 650D, with a 90mm Tamron f/2.8 Macro lens. With flash, it was hand held.Inspiration
It was quite simply a desire to learn more, at that time I had an instatiable appetite for anything that moved or crawled.Editing
Yes it was cropped, I always try to get the most out of my shots. And another reason it was cropped, was because there was two flies and they were being rather intimate, so I cropped his partner out. I use Zoner to post process and don't do much apart from lighten, darken, and crop.In my camera bag
At the moment I have a Canon 5D Mark iii, a 7D Mark ii, with a Canon EF 400mm f5.6 prime lens. a Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 IS ii, a Canon EF 24-105 f4 IS, and the last one is my Canon Macro 100mm f2.8. I also carry a macro lighting ring.Feedback
With macro in particular, when you think you have enough light use more. You can never have enough light for macro shots. The main thing though is to enjoy your time and spend it wisely. Photography opens many doors and expands your mind to new possibilities every single day. If you are passionate about it then feed your passion. I know I do.
