Location
The photo was taken 3 miles east of my home at a neighborhood lake. I am pretty much a self taught photographer that likes going out on the weekend on local outdoor adventures.Time
Soft afternoon light under cloudy skies. about 4;00 pmLighting
I knew the lighting outside was good soft light under cloudy conditions if I could just get close enough to the Heron, so I slowly walked over 100 yards slowly using trees & a bridge for camoflage until I got within shooting distance of the Heron, beeing sure to check all my settings in preperation for a fast shot so that once I poped out from behind the bridge the bird immediatly took flight, carefully tracking the bird on continuous mode I got the shot!Equipment
I normally bring my Nikon D 5000 with two kit lenses. 18 to 55 nikor VR 3.5 & 55 to 200 nikor VR zoom lens. The day I got the Great Blue Heron in Flight I was using the 55 to 200 lens on full out 200 zoom.Inspiration
As you can see by my portfolio I love doing landscape, bird, & animal photography. I was a quiet day at the park conditions were right so I immediatly laid out a quick plan to work my way over to the bird in hopes it would not spook until I was ready.Editing
very little post processing was used, a slight crop change to B/W & a slight vinnette. In my camera bag
My Nikon D 5000 DSLR & two kit lenses the 18 to 55 mm for close work portrait & landscape shots the 55 to 200 mm for the timid birds & animals.Feedback
know your camera, your envirnment & your lighting. if at first you don't suceed try try again. Take what ever classes you need to get better & it always helps to have a mentor or someone to learn from, don't be afraid to ask questions on VIEW BUG!!!! Happy shooting Ron Krings
