Gorgeous. We don't usually see such a sweeping vista in photos of the Golden Gate, so this is rather special.

Location
This view is from Hawk Hill on the Marin County side of the Golden Gate. It's the road over the hill to the Marin Headlands and one of the most iconic views of San Francisco Bay around.Time
It was very early, probably around 5:30am when I started this shoot. That means I was up and out of my house in the East Bay at 3am.Lighting
As you can see it was a cloudy morning but there were breaks, allowing the sun to shine through. I was treate to a nice, peaceful sunrise over one of the most beautiful views in the world.Equipment
I was using a Canon 6D at this time with a 24-70 2.8L. A Manfrotto 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with a 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead.Inspiration
I had wanted to get a shot from this side in the morning for quite some time. Waking up at 2:30 to get out here in time was always the impediment to such an endeavor. I'm glad I finally overcame it and made the trek.Editing
I pulled it into Lightroom and did some small edits, then went into Photoshop and did the heavy work. I was pleasantly surprised at the colors that came out of the capture. Not much else other than putting a little more light on the SF Skyline. In my camera bag
Right now I have a Canon 5D MKIII with a 24-70 2.8L II, a 16-35 2.8L II, an 85 1.8, various filters, including a Lee Big Stopper. I also carry a 580ex just in case.Feedback
Get up early and wear a jacket (or three). Have an idea of what you want to do. it doesn't need to be pin-point specific but have some vision of the outcome. I wanted to capture sunrise here while the lights of the cities were still on.
