I took this photo walking across town in New York City. I brought my camera with me to work that day because I had planned to do some street photography on my walk to the bus station.Time
I took this picture on July 18, 2014 around 5pm. It was a beautiful day and New York City is one of easiest places to find a little inspiration as soon as you walk outside. The buildings in New York define the landscape and in some parts, if you stand in the right place, all you can see is concrete, steel and glass.Lighting
The sun was at a pretty good spot to throw some light on the sides of the buildings and still have a nice, deep blue sky. Also some of the buildings act like huge reflectors to bounce light around from the top of the buildings all the way down.Equipment
I was breaking in my new sony A6000 with a sigma 19mm prime. Great combination, especially for walking around town. The A6000 is slowly becoming my camera of choice in many situations, not just street photography.Inspiration
As a photographer I like to try and get interesting angles in my photos, especially when it comes to architecture. As a commuter to New York for many years I always liked to look to up to see the perspective, the angles and the lines the buildings would make.Editing
I always shoot in raw format. For this image I imported the image into Adobe lightroom and then exported the image into Nik Silver Efex Pro 2. In Silver Efex I adjusted the contrast and structure to my liking and for the final step I lowered the Blacks in Lightroom to around -50.In my camera bag
My normal equipment bag contains my Nikon D7000, Sony A6000, Sigma 50-150mm, sigma 19mm & 60mm and an expodisc.Feedback
For capturing landscape/architecture go wide. The wide angle lens will give you a more dramatic feeling to your shots. Remember to look for the creative composition. You might be shooting something that people walk past everyday and not even notice but if you find an interesting perspective or angle it can make your subject stand out.
