I shot this at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) in New York.Time
Late morning.Lighting
Natural light. Sunny day.Equipment
I used Canon70D and very old Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS for this shot (No tripod 1/1000 ISO 160)Inspiration
I love flowers and I visit several gardens very often. But when outside is too hot, I simply stay home. Then I miss lotus flower season every year. This year, I finally decided to go out, and feeling already sweaty and sticky, I saw this lotus flower. It seemed imposing and it looked so clean and pure against the background of the not-so-clean pool.Editing
I shoot Raw and use Lightroom 5 to convert to jpg. I slid the clarity slider to the right to add more punch and midtone contrast and emphasize the stamen. In my camera bag
It depends. When I go outside, I bring my Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS and Tamron 60mm F2.0 macro lens and Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 for general purpose. When shooting indoor (babies, museum art, food) I like to use Canon 35mm F2, Canon 24-70mm F2.8. Sometimes I use Canon speedlite 430EX II with diffuser.Feedback
This is a tall flower and may be far from the pool edge in botanical gardens. You may need a telephoto lens.
