Gorgeous shot. The lighting and makeup are very capturing. The colours compliment each other and your eyes are very crisp and clear which make the photo very pleasing to the eye. I was wondering if you would like to enter this into my photo challenge called Your Haunting Portraits. It is made for portraits with makeup such as this and for photos such as this.

I took this photo in my room in an improvised studio, that I made for this shootTime
It doesn't really matter, since I made the shop indoors with a flash, but it was evening :)Lighting
The lighting setup was really reasy in this one. I just used Nikon SB910 hot-shoe flash with a silver umbrella that was centered right above the model's head. She was also holding a silver reflector with her arms, that's why you see a catchlight in her eyesEquipment
I've used Nikon D700 and Nikkor 24-70mm, 2.8 lens. Flash, as I've said earlier, was Nikon SB910 with silver umbrella, silver reflector and a piece of black cloth on the wall for the black backgroundInspiration
This was a collaborative idea of the make-up artist Tatiana Medved and me. We wanted to depict a mystical creature naiad that live in the swamps small lakes. This was also a portfolio shot for both of us. Tatiana (make-up artist) wanted to work on something creative and artistic, while I need to showcase more beauty shots in my portfolio.Editing
Most of the work was done by the make-up artist. It actually took almost 4 hours to paint all the makeup and glue all the horns and stuff. For post-processing I've mirrored some of the horns from one side, because I wanted to go for more symmetrical look and I also did standard for beauty shots retouch - like skin and hair retouching, eyes, lips and I also cleaned areas were makeup appeared too harsh to even it out a little bit.In my camera bag
Most of the time I use my Nikon D700, Nikkor 24-70mm, 2.8 and Nikon SB910. I also have Nikkor 50mm, 1.8G and Lee filters (polarizing, graduated ND soft and hard), which I only use in outdoor shootings. If it's an indoor shooting, then I try to improvize with stuff that I have at home, like huge pieces of styrofoam, aluminium foil and pieces of clothFeedback
You don't actually need to rent an expensive studio to shoot something like this, since I was shooting this is a medium size room with a model on a chair and a small piece of cloth on the wall (I think the cloth wasn't even covering the whole background, as you can clean it later in photoshop). Even if you don't have a cloth, you can either use a piece of black paper, or simply let the model sit away from the wall. Since the light is going directly from above, there won't be a lot of it hitting the wall in the back and it won't be a problem to make it completely dark in either Photoshop or Lightroom. If you don't have a silver reflector, you can just wrap aluminium foil around whatever there is in your house - it will do the same, or use a mirror, which will give even stronger fill light. Or a styrofoam - it will give very soft light, while mirror will make it harsh and quite strong as well. Taking the shot wasn't really that difficult. The only main problem here was to have a nice makeup artist at your side :) Since not all makeup artists will want to go for something like that, since no one will probably want a makeup like this for a wedding or graduation and they won't have a huge line of clients :) The rest was retouched. Despite the fact that most of the work was done by the makeup artist, I still had a lot of work in Photoshop, since I wanted this shot to look super sleek and surreal, so I had to do a lot of cleaning and it's not the usual cleaning, since the skin is not its usual color :) There's also a trick I learned in this shot, which I sometimes use. When you have frontal shots like this, you can retouch only half of the face and then mirror it ;) I did this for the forehead, the rest was retouched as usual.
