Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in the afternoon/evening when I had time to look about and see what took my fancy.

Time

The light was just waning between afternoon and tea-time, always a good time for different emphasis on familiar objects.

Lighting

The light was reflecting through the resin and giving a solid look to it, almost like a glass droplet.

Equipment

I had my Sony Nex F3 with the excellent Series 1 Vivitar 90mm 2.5 lens with its own adapter to achieve 1:1 Macro. Unlike a lot of lenses that have close-focus capability, this lens with the adapter does just macro, which keeps one very focused on that subject.

Inspiration

Sometimes its hard not to keep on taking the same shots over and over. I have often looked back a year and noticed that a certain location produces the same shots from me. But this shot presented itself from fresh timber work, and the droplet changed a lot so I had to hope I was getting it at its best. Another handy point about this shot was that the timber work was framed so I could rest my lens against its brothers and take the vibration out of the equation.

Editing

I use a lot of old manual lenses and they usually need the minimum of processing. Oh and I turned it on its side which I thought made it more solid looking.

In my camera bag

I usually bring three lenses with me, Sony wide-angle(16mm) with the wider attachment making it a 12mm. I bring a mid-range, maybe a Soligor 135, or a Tamron 90mm, and either a 70-210 Vivitar or maybe just a Helios 200mm.

Feedback

I have a cherry tree that produces this golden essence but its hard to tell when it would be there, but new timber from a mill would have this I think. I wonder would golden syrup or honey do the same job? Worth a try and with the background of ones choosing, it could do an even better job.
