Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on top of the Square Tower in old Portsmouth - UK. It is a wonderful spot for photos during the Golden Hour.

Time

Those few minutes during the sunset.

Lighting

As the sun sets there, it creates amazing colours between the sky, the sea and the clouds.

Equipment

For this photo I have used my Canon 550D with the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens.

Inspiration

I love sunsets. The photo was taken during a common walk in town. When I realised that wonderful sunset I rushed at the top of the Square Tower to take a couple of photos. That's why you have to carry a camera always with you. It doesn't have to be a DSLR though. Compact cameras do amazing jobs these days.

Editing

My post-processing was done through Lightroom. There a few specific things you need to know about editing sunsets. But it always depends how you like your sunsets. It's all about the colours. By playing around with the temperature and tint you can find the best combination that your photo looks at it's best. Then it's all about your style. I like my photos to have the sense of clarity in them so they bring out their detail.

In my camera bag

I normally have my DSLR in my bag with my 10-22 mm as I like landscape photography but there are times I might put it in a 50 mm as well.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is to carry a camera with you all the times. You never know what you will find or what might appear before you. The more photos you take, the better. Your eye becomes more experienced and you can identify easier what can make a good photo.
