Location
This shot was taken in my flat - in the only place I could get completely dark, my hallway, as there are no windows.Time
I believe it was one afternoon this shot was taken. In reality, as I had total control over the lighting, it didn't really matter.Lighting
I took quite an unconventional approach to the lighting, due mostly to a lack of studio lights. I was actually lit with a single mini-maglite torch, suspended in a microphone shock mount and placed on a mic stand high and directly behind the camera. One point that fell in my favour was the batteries in the torch were running out, so it wasn't as bright as it could have been.Equipment
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, Tamron 28-300mmVC lens, and 1 mini-maglight (with failing batteries)Inspiration
I play in a band, although there's only 2 of us, which play mostly acoustic material, and this was originally going to be the cover photo of our 1st album.Editing
The only processing applied was levels and sharpening, the shot was left exactly as composed, with no cropping. In my camera bag
These days, my bag consists of a Canon EOS 7D, my all-purpose Tamron 28-300mmVC lens, a Tamron 10-24mm wide angle lens and a set of extension tubes for any macro shots.Feedback
I think the best advice I could give is to have a clear idea of the image you want to capture. With this shot I knew exactly what I wanted, and the result was worth the time and effort to set it up and get it just right.
