This photo depicts damsel flies during a mating ritual known as tandem when the male grasps the female by the neck. If the female accepts, she thrusts the tip of her abdomen towards the lower thorax of the male and he inserts his penis into the vaginal slit. When flying in tandem while copulating, its called the "wheel".
