Canon 50D, 50mm f1.8, St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, December 2010 ... Quietly, said hello to one of the elder ladies doing new flower arrangements this day at St.Paul’s Cathedral, fortunately she was happy to have a bit of a chat in between poking and pushing a huge fresh flower arrangement into shape … she’s been doing the flowers for the Church the past thirty years, it can take up to three hours or more to complete one arrangement, depending on the complexity and flowers used … the flower arrangements for Christmas take a team of ten people to complete!

Thanks so much :-)) ... it was a very LUCKY shot! Indoors, very low light conditions, and unknowingly the cam was set at 1/30th of a sec > ripe opportunity for movement blur or camera shake ... but her hand was still long enough (and I had the cam propped on my knee) for this one and only shot ... :-)))

This is awesome, her hands tell a thousand stories on their own. Beautiful capture, and your work is inspirational :)

Thanks so much, Katie :-) The original colour image is pretty cool in it's own right (bright orange secateurs amongst muted colours of her shirt and b/g), but much prefer the b/w for the details it brings out in her hand and clippers :-)) ... thank you for the peer recognition :-D

Great b/w image. A simple image that tells a story. I added a few photos to your journalism project. - Jake
