Location
This image was captured in Auburn, New Hampshire around mid to late September in 1993.Time
Late afternoon around 4 pm.Lighting
The late afternoon lighting is great because of the warm, overall cast of the illumination. Combined with the beautiful fall colors, the end result was quite striking.Equipment
Minolta X700 35mm SLR with a standard 50mm lens. Had the camera loaded with Konica film. Did a lot of shooting with film by Konica because I liked the color quality of the imagesInspiration
Autumn foliage is a favorite capture for me. I was incredibly fortunate to be living in New Hampshire at the time I shot this image so there were always opportunities to capture some incredible scenery on any given day.Editing
Just some slight tweaking of the exposure to enhance the shadow areas in the image. In my camera bag
Well, I still have the X700 (yes, I still shoot with that dinosaur known as film every now and again). There is a Canon Power Shot compact camera and my daily workhorse- a Canon EOS Rebel T2i with an 18-55mm AF lens. There is also a lens cleaning kit, extra memory cards, as well as a small flashlight and a notepad.Feedback
To capture fall foliage at its best it definitely helps to have the right lighting. Mid-morning or mid-afternoon are the best times. The light is not too intense but is bright enough to make colors jump out (overcast days also make for great shooting opportunities with the fall colors). Definitely bracket your exposures to ensure you get the best color saturation and tone. Obviously, for fall foliage, you will need to know the peak time for the foliage and pick a day to go out and do your shooting.
