Behind The Lens

Location

I take this photo in Belgorod-Dnestovskiy (near Odessa, Ukraine)

Time

I shoting in night near midnight hours

Lighting

During the shooting of this picture, I used an external flash Nikon SB900. I held it in my hands and made a few single flashes at full power during a single exposure.

Equipment

I using Nikon D5200 ( I often shoot from low angles and I like the rotary screen in this camera). Lens Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II AF 11-16 mm f/2.8 Tripod Manfrotto External flash Nikon SB900

Inspiration

I love to shoot at night. This castle and its reflection in the water at night and the lights look just fine. The starry sky and the full moon more complement this atmosphere. I wanted to time in my photo froze, and the viewer was transported to the Middle Ages, because this fortress was built in the 14th century

Editing

I used Lightroom. I slightly adjusted the white balance to the cold side, added some clarity and slightly lightened shadows

In my camera bag

I using Nikon D5200 ( I often shoot from low angles and I like the rotary screen in this camera). My lenses for night shots: Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II AF 11-16 mm f/2.8, TOKINA AF 10-17 mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye External flash Nikon SB900 LED head flashlight with color filters (red, blue, green) Tripod Manfrotto Manfrotto 190XB and small but small and lightweight but reliable Slik SPRINT MINI II GM Filters: Polarizing filter Marumi (Pro series), ND 1000 - B+W

Feedback

Shoot at night - it's very exciting! Do not be afraid to put my tripod into the water for a good shot. For night shooting in advance select a point earlier in the day, because in the dark it will be hard to do. Experiment with different sources of lighting the foreground, use an external flash and LED flashlights with colored filters - it gives a lovely and unexpected effect. I wish you good luck!
