It's VERY rare that I edit and release photos without human subjects somewhere in them, but this one is an exception.
My good friend Danica of Brass Ring Sun Farm, http:--www.brassringsunfarms.com, who has provided me with horses for photos before (http:--www.flickr.com-photos-artosthebear-5881134864-) had a new horse arrive at her stable. The new horse, Carried Away, needed some pretty new headshots, so I drove up to the stable one morning and we took some photos.
I wasn't shooting with the intention to get anything "artsy" out of it, but the combination of a beautiful subject, the early morning light, a lovely landscape and the dust she had kicked up trotting around the arena proved irresistible. As soon as I saw this frame, I felt it fit in well with my dustbowl series, Orphans of the Mother Road, http:--www.flickr.com-photos-artosthebear-sets-72157627493129048-. She looks so lonely gazing out in the distance... it just slid right into the rest of the series like it had been planned all along.
Model: Carried Away - http:--www.brassringsunfarms.com. Thanks to Danica for providing the talent! :)
I wrote a three-part guest blog for author Robin McKinley; part one is up! http:--robinmckinleysblog.com-2014-06-16-creating-dreamworld-part-i-guest-post-by-sarah-allegra-
