Behind The Lens
Location
Bret was photographed in Hawaii, in my backyard, in front of a brick wall. I took this back drop in Iowa, on a very cold day. I put the two images together on a sweltering rainy day in the Philippines.Time
Both shots were accomplished in the morning.Lighting
Both images were captured in natural light. To make a composite work, the direction and the color of the shadows need to match.Equipment
Canon 5dII and 50mm for Brett, 24-70mm Tamron lens for the landscape.Inspiration
I was trying to help out a friend and practice shooting at the same time. Then I was bored and wanted to practice my photoshop! I revisit images often.Editing
A TON of post production. I had to cut Brett out of the original image, which is time consuming but not difficult. Then I had to reshape the landscape to match perspective. When I composited the image is did it in back and white to make sure the tonality matched. Afterward, I adjusted the hue of the back plate and then toned both images together to sell the composite. In my camera bag
I have been traveling light since leaving Hawaii. Seven months, five countries, and 14 times through Customs inspired me to do it all with one camera and one lens. I have a Canon 5DII and 24-70mm Tamron Lens. And that is all. I also have a hefty magfiber tripod made by Manfrotto. I carry three batteries, a remote shutter, a cleaning kit, and CPL. Oh, and there is almost always food in there.Feedback
Nothing is keeping you from doing this to one of your photos. There is so much education on the internet about photo manipulation and compositing. Just do it.
