Behind The Lens
Location
While visiting a friends and helping out around the house ( clearing up after a whirlwind of puppies ) we decided to place the board between us and the puppies to allow time for the clear up without getting to badly chewed. I was lucky enough to have brought my camera with me but at this stage it was a good distance away. As soon as I noticed the puppies had lined themselves up to watch me I was aware that time was of the essence. As I shouted to my friend to `please bring my camera` one of the pups went to bed having lost interest. I grabbed the camera as it came within striking distance, and in one movement looked at the panel, adjusted the F stop and ISO to give me a faster shutter and started rapid shooting. The opportunity had gone just as quickly as it arose but I was very lucky to have captured this one. We tried to re-create the scenario but to no avail.Time

The bright sunlight created a huge contrast with the dark background inside the building so I had to make sure that at least the puppies all had similar lighting and none where in the shade, I had to reposition myself and get down low to avoid shadows.Equipment
Canon EOS 6d with canon 24-70 F4 L IS Hand held. No time to choose, just grab what`s available and start to shoot.Inspiration
I have taken many images of these pups since birth, many are sent to the, soon to be new owners, as a diary of events. It has been great practice for me and I have learned so much about moving targets and Hungarian Vizsla`s of course, that I would like to concentrate more of my time creating images of animals both wild and domestic.Editing
The largest change to the image was the cropping, I had no time to stage the shot so above and below the pups did not help the image, I also darkened the background to erase some distracting elements and used the spot removal tool to clean up a little. The long narrow panorama type crop fits nicely around the side of a mug but otherwise can be a little harder to work with.In my camera bag
I am a very keen amateur photographer and have built up my kit over many years, buying used if need be. I have just upgraded to a Canon EOS 5D Mk III but I will Keep My 6d as the quality is great and I have a daughter who is interested. I carry a Canon 16-35 F4 L IS, Canon 24 -70 F4 L IS, Canon 70-200 F4 L IS, Canon 1.4 X converter, Canon 50mm F 1.4 a number of ND filters and a Lee big stopper. All this fits in one Tamrac bag and, Much to the annoyance of my family, it travels everywhere with me, even to work.Feedback
Take your time when you can but be prepared for anything. When I started to take photographs I would change the settings, stand upright, hold the camera correctly, breath in, press the shutter once and hope, clean the camera and put it away. Now, I just grab and go, I will dive into mud wearing a suit while adjusting settings if I think there is a worthwhile image to be had and my camera has become a tool rather than a collectors item, always bear in mind that if your happy with the end result then thats what matters.
