It was all natural lighting that was filtered nicely by the trees and early spring leaves.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5100 with the kit 55-300mm lens, hand held.Inspiration
Nature inspires me to take photos.Editing
All I did was a little bit of cropping and increased the sharpness just a tad.In my camera bag
Nikon D5100, Nikon 55-300mm kit lens, Nikon 18-85mm lens, neutral density filters, polarizing filter, spare batteries, SB600 flash and an 8X8" soft box flash attachment, lens cleaning supplies and cables.Feedback
You have to be very fast to catch these guys sitting still because they don't for very long. I used to shoot trap competitively so I learned to keep both eyes open to follow a target. I use one eye through the view finder and the other one scans outside the view finder. When you have the lens cranked all the way out, the bird can jump out of the field of view making it hard to re-acquire the target. You don't have time to pull the camera away from your face so this technique works pretty good for me.
