Behind The Lens

Location

I took this image in my kitchen.

Time

It was around 3pm or so. Getting my veggies together for a wonderful vegetable tart.

Lighting

I have wonderful light that comes in through the kitchen windows. It was shot will completely natural light.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7100. f/5.6, ISO 720, 10/2500

Inspiration

I love fresh organic fruit and vegetables. I grow most of my own food. The taste is so much better than a grocery store and I don't have to worry about pesticides and other chemicals that are put on food. The light that was hitting the onion through the window was fantastic! I loved the textures and the subdued colors. Just had to get a photo of my dinner!

Editing

I did a darker mask over the image and took out the areas where I wanted the light to show through.

In my camera bag

I keep either my 500mm Tamron lens or my Nikor 50mm, depending which one I plan on using first! I live in an area of beautiful landscapes and a lot of wildlife. I never really know what I will be seeing on my way out of here. I also keep a collection of filters and miscellaneous things that I might need sometime.

Feedback

Set out your subject and look to see how the light is hitting it. One side of a subject might be more interesting than another. Try to shoot almost level with your subject. Do a number of shots from different angles and see which one appeals to you. Play with the different colors and textures together. Don't be afraid to add more or take things away. Most important, have fun!!!
