Love this, the focus is excellent, the colour is fabulous and the shape is beautiful. Shooting eyes can be very difficult to make interesting, so great effort!

Behind The Lens

Location
It was taken at a bird park in Hampshire, UK.
Time
During the afternoon.
Lighting
Taken during the summer in full sun.
Equipment
Canon 500D, Sigma 150-500mm at around 400mm, hand held.
Inspiration
The photo is actually of a South African Hornbill so i was drawn to it's incredibly long menacing beak. It wasn't until after i realised how stunning the eye was.
Editing
Post processing invloved cropping to just show the eye and a boost in colour to bring out the red/orange.
In my camera bag
I usually go with everything i might need. Canon 70D, Sigma 18-250mm lens, Sigma 150-500mm lens, polarising filter, monopod, spare battery, spare memory cards.
Feedback
When trying to photograph birds like this, try from as many different angles as you can.
