The Jordan Staircase is the main staircase of the Winter Palace which houses the Hermitage Museum the largest museum in the world with over 3 million items, 1057 room none identical, and 117 staircases. This white marble staircase is named after Jesus Baptism in River Jordan. Each year on January 6th the clergy and court would descend to celebrate the "Blessing of the Waters". Proceed to the Neva River outside, cut hole in ice and bless the water for later use in baptisms.
