Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot when I just finished my photography course. I was full of ideas and I wanted to try out light painting. I took this picture back in Romania on a mountain road, we parked with our car just beside the road and I put my tripod on the top of my car.

Time

I remember wanting to capture the lights in blue hour but we calculated wrong and we end up too late on the spot. But I still decided to go true with it, because it was a good traffic on the road, lots of cars passing and also trucks.

Lighting

Well I was a little bit concerned that might be too dark, because my plan to catch the blue hour failed, but with a longer exposer I managed to catch beautiful lines.

Equipment

This was quite a long time ago, back then I think I was taking the shoot with my second camera a Canon 5D, but I do not remember the lens. The tripod I think it was a manfrotto.

Inspiration

This was not a planned shoot more like a happy accident, my first idea was to capture these car light in blue hour. But it came out great and I loved this dark effect also.

Editing

Not much, maybe a little extra highlight and saturation but all in all it was a great photo I didn`t wanted to change anything.

In my camera bag

Currently only a Sony alpha 100. I am in a fase of fully changing my equipment again so this is a very old camera just to have something.

Feedback

I would say, plan ahead, and plan good. I miscalculated my initially blue hour, so if you skip this part, happy accidents can still happen. Improvise and don`t give up. Come up with a spontaneous idea and go with it. Reward you efforts even if it`s just an exercise or a try out. Enjoy the moments, maybe a wining picture gonna come out of it.
