Location

Louvre Museum Paris

Time

About 10am

Lighting

Natural lighting through large windows

Equipment

Canon 550d with 18 -55 lens. As it was a crowded corridor I was a case of shooting without tripod with stabilisation turned on

Inspiration

I was waiting to view the Mona Lisa and while standing in the queue to get into the room looked up and saw this wonderful ceiling. The best part was that being high up you didn't have to worry about getting a stray head in the shot. The Gold, white and blue created great contrast. The whole ceiling was spectacular but was impossible to capture therefore I picked a small corner with great detail to show the skill with which the whole ceiling was done in.

Editing

I used Canon's own DPP to sharpen the image then increased the contrast and shadows to get the final image.

In my camera bag

Canon 550d with 18-55 lens, Canon 75-300 EF lens and a Carl Zeiss 35 F 2.4 prime. This is a M42 screw thread which I use an adaptor for the Canon. I use it a a 50mm prime it has a manual setting for the F stop settings. To help with light I use graduated filters

Feedback

My best advice would be try to keep it simple. There were large crowds pushing and shoving so the shot need to be quick. Low ISO to capture the best detail Shoot in AV mode with F stop of 5.6. Try and keep the light behind you to keep the shadows down in the detail. Shot in Raw to capture that detail.
