Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in Seaham, Co Durham, England. There is a cenotaph of rememberance in the grassed area by the sea and this fantastic sculpture is to the left.

Time

I woke early one morning 4.50am and headed off to work with the intent of visiting "Tommy" on the way, the cloud was low and grey so it gave me the idear of the b&w et of shots taken. No tripod used so it was just plain happy snapping.

Lighting

Due to grey weather the scene was set and exactly what I needed, there was a slight mist in the air too giving that perfect grey day look.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D5200,18-135mm Nikkor lens & Kenko UV filter.... That's all folks !

Inspiration

The sculpture "Tommy" or "1101" was created by a local man depicting the end of WW1.... I'm fascinated with respect of the Great War so this sculpture had to be in my portfolio.

Editing

I simply turned this shot into black & white and the slightly cropped to fit that all to be honest. Very easy to do.

In my camera bag

Along with my D5200 I carry my old faithful D40 as a spare. The D40 has a standard 18-55mm lens, spare battery and assorted 52mm filters. My D5200 has an 18-135mm lens fitted plus I carry a 55-300mm lens and have spare battery's, lens hood, lens pen and 67mm filters. I have a Hanel tripod in my boot and I carry a light weight Manfrotto tripod when out walking.

Feedback

Angles are and shadows need looking at, walk around the object if possible until you see exactly what you need, shoot test shots from all angles until your happy whit your capture. Remember to enjoy the shot too through your own eyes.
