This photo taken at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO. This is 1 in a series of 3 shots captured of this rescued Lioness. She was waking up from a nap and rolling over onto her back, I was looking straight down at her at the moment of the shot.Time
Captured in mid afternoon in May of 2014; she lives inside the tent covered Lion enclosure. All of these Lions have access to inside and outside areas.Lighting
It was sunny day, but sunlight was obscured by the tent.Equipment
Camera: Sony A77 Lens: Sigma 150-500mm handheld shot taken at 400mmInspiration
The Wild Animal Sanctuary is one of our favorite places to visit in Colorado. What they do for the hundreds of animals they have rescued over the years is simply remarkable. They built the "Mile in the Sky" elevated walkway that gives you the opportunity to view most of the animals at close range (above them). We have been there many times before and this day we were lucky enough to capture this beautiful Lion.Editing
This shot only needed basic color adjustment, to reverse heavy yellowing caused by the tent. I wanted the photo to look as natural as possible, with the least amount of editing possible. In my camera bag

This sanctuary is an incredible place for beginners & pros to capture wildlife photos. Your viewpoint from the elevated walkway is unmatched by any zoo or sanctuary we have ever visited. They have every animal you can think of; Grizzlys, Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Fox, Tigers, Wolf, Leopards, Servals, Bobcats, and of course tons of Lions. If you will ever be in the Denver area, put it on your bucket list. It's only a 30min drive.
