This is the better of the two "graveyard shots" because there is a slight gradient of dark (foreground) to light (bkgrnd), which gives perspective and moves the eye.
The other graveyard shot could easily be "improved" by creating a similar effect> select and darken the foreground headstones gradually allowing more lightness in the distance. Also, in each, create more definition (sharpening, more contrast) in foreground headstones, less in the perceived background.
