What an amazing view! My husband would make me pull over about here, LOL. I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes on the road! Surrounded by so much beauty... great capture! Congrats on your March Feature :D

Location
This photo was taken at the south end of Lake Pukaki, New Zealand facing north west. Latitude 44°11'18.73"S, Longitude 170° 8'7.91"E.Time
The time was about 4pm in the afternoon.Lighting
It was a gloomy day but the sun was bouncing through the ominous clouds causing them to radiate a multitude of sepia tones, this made for a very incandescent scene.Equipment
I used my trusty Canon EOS 550D with 18-135mm IS zoom lens, my Tripod and a 2 stop graduated neutral density filter.Inspiration
The curvature and clean lines of the road disappearing into the distance and the clouds were the biggest draw cards for me. The way the sepia tones lit up the landscape and reflected off the tire trails in the road was very enticing to the eye.Editing
Yes, I actually took 3 bracketed photos each 1 stop apart to capture the details within the high and low ranges of the scene. I later merged various parts of the 3 bracketed photos in Photoshop using transparency masks which gave me a high dynamic range image. From this composite i tweaked the contrast and details to my desired level and erased some ugly signage on the side of the road.In my camera bag
I normally pack my bag according to my needs on the day but when I take everything my bag will contain my Canon EOS 550D and 18-135mm IS zoom lens, a bounce flash for those dimly lit areas, a remote shutter trigger for when I need the steadiest of shots, my very handy B-Grip belt, my tripod when/if I need it, a variable ND Grad filter and UV filter, lens cleaning kit, two spare batteries and a spare SD Card.Feedback
Shoot from some strange places! Don't be afraid to climb a tree, stand on roof or in the middle of the road (but wait for cars to pass first :-). Moving around and trying different vantage points can make all the difference between a cracker of a photo and a holiday snapshot. If you know you won't get the chance to return to this spot then cease the moment from as many angles as possible because your SD card can hack it, the worst it will do is take a little more time to sift through back home but is that not worth it to find that golden capture??
