Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the back garden of a friends house in Southport many years ago, just as I was getting into photography.

Time

Taken about 7/8 at night.

Lighting

Other than moon light, nope.

Equipment

If I can recall, I was using my Sony a350 camera & my friends telescope. was a long time a go, but a shot I'm most proud of.

Inspiration

This in all fairness was a very lucky shot. Ive always had an interested in the night sky, stars, UFOs etc. But to photograph it, wouldn't have a clue where to begin. A friend had got a telescope & been using it for about 12months when he invited me down. Said to bring my camera with me. He set it up it up for me & said I was good to go. But I had to take about 50 shots & the stack them in Photoshop to get a really sharp image. As I'm shooting, he starting shouting "No!.....No!.....you haven't got have you?" I had no idea what he was on about until I saw the shot of the plane going through the moon on the back of my screen. I was gobsmacked & he wouldn't speak to me for the rest of the night, as he had been trying to get that shot for 12 months with no luck & I got on my first attempt!

Editing

Simple processing, levels adjustment & a high pass filter to sharpen. Kept it simple.

In my camera bag

Back then I thought I needed every gadget going, but ive simplified my gear now. I just run my Sony a6000, tripod, cable release, plenty of spare batteries & a couple of filters

Feedback

Me it was a lucky shot, but being patient is key wih most photography. Waiting for that certain moment, perfect light etc. We all become guilty to often of just snapping. Wait in a spot for 20 mins & watch how much it changes, the people, the light, weather, it's worth waiting for.
