Location
The photo was taken in my backyard where several hummingbirds come to feed at my bird feederTime
The photo was taken mid morning.Lighting
I had the sun behind me in order to better illuminate the hummingbird. The sky was clear and the lighting was good.Equipment
I used a Sony A77 DSLR with a Sony Vario-Sonnar Zeiss T* 24-70mm F2.8 zoom lens. Aperture at F/9.0, ISO 400, Exposure at 1/1000. Tripod mounted.Inspiration
I love bird photography and especially love hummingbirds. I've always been deeply impressed with their colors that often have a wonderful sheen. I also wanted to capture the wings since they are rarely seen due to their high rate of movement.Editing
I used Topaz Adjust to add a small amount of sharpness and exposure. In my camera bag
I carry a Sony A77 DSLR with a Sony Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 zoom lens and a Sony 70–300 mm F4.5–5.6 G SSM II zoom lens; a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 camera with a 25-400mm F2.8-4 zoom lens, and a 256G card that I use for 4K video and shoots where I want a lighter weight camera. Also carry a 3Pod P5CRH Carbon Fiber Compact Reversible Tripod with K3 BallHead.Feedback
Patience and more patience. Take your time and establish yourself in a non-threatening position so that the hummingbirds get accustomed to your presence. Getting the birds in direct sunlight is best if you want to optimize the color on the birds.
