Fabulous shot ... love the use of red; it seems symbolic of the blood that was shed there.

Location
This photo was taken at Liberty State Park in New Jersey...across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan (New York City).Time
Evening, well after sunset. At some other times, I would arrive at my shooting location about an hour before sunset to take advantage of the changing light, well into into the dark of night.Lighting
When lights are the subject, I shoot in manual mode beginning at f8 or f11, and use shutter speed to bracket either side from there. Because the low light makes for slower shutter speeds, it offers the opportunity for special effects: zooming in or out, intentional camera shake, multiple exposures...endless creative interpretations.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Nikon F3, a mid-range zoom...off a tripod.Inspiration
At the time I had been working for Eastern Airlines at Newark International Airport, very close to Liberty State Park. Having been born in New York City, it's been a life-long love affair, and especially with the Twin Towers. The park offered a great perspective. With ever-changing weather conditions and light, I could not resist returning time and again.Editing
Since the original was a transparency, it had to be converted. This conversion turned out to be right on the money. In my camera bag
To reduce weight, I only load up what I need: For the most part, two [Nikon] bodies and three lenses...and backup batteries, lens clothes, two remotes, and ND filters. I have three tripods, two light-weight, one heavy.Feedback
Visit the subject(s)...lights...at night a number of times to experiment with exposures, perspective, and composition. After the first shoot, take time to examine, contemplate, mull in quietude the creative potential for the next visit. If you shoot enough at night, your eyes allow your brain to become a light meter.
