I don’t know about you guys, but I am my own worst critic. I beat myself up over almost every little thing. Why did I say that?! Why didn’t I do that differently?! Why can’t I be more like that person?! What’s wrong with me?!!! I have done this to the point where I literally couldn’t stand myself.
A little healthy self-criticism can help us learn and grow, but when it gets out of hand it can be pretty debilitating. And I think when we are filled with self-hatred it spills over onto others as well. After all, how are we supposed to be able to love others if we don’t even love ourselves.
Stop and think about the inner dialogue you have with yourself on a day to day basis. Is the majority of it negative or positive? If the way you speak to yourself is mostly negative, try to change those negative thoughts into positive ones. “I made a mistake, but I am learning.” “I’ll do better next time.”
This is something I am working on. I know it won’t happen overnight, but I’ll get there eventually and hopefully be a better person for it. And I challenge all of you to do the same thing. Let’s be kind to ourselves, everybody!

Location
I took this photo in the basement apartment I was living in at the time.Time
AfternoonLighting
I used a Yongnuo speedlite with a shoot through unbrella for my main light and a small slave flash for a hair light.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 7D and a 50mm 1.8 lens. I mounted the camera to a tripod and used the camera's timer to get the different shots of myself.Inspiration

Yes. I did very minimal skin retouching (after all the photo is about loving yourself, flaws and all) The post-processing is mainly changing the color tones to the blue you see and adding a grungy texture. In my camera bag
Canon 7D, Yongnuo speedlite, 2 yongnuo transceivers, grey card, batteries, 50mm lens, and 85mm lensFeedback
For this photo, I really wanted to relay a message about something that I consistently struggle with and I know others struggle with it too. Think of something that is relevant to you that you also think will speak to others and figure out how best to get your message across. Photography can be a very powerful medium to reach people and help them.
