Certainly worth the effort of getting out of bed for the early shoot. Great shot :)

Oh wow! Love the image. Makes me want to walk right into it and step in that water flowing beside the rocks.

Location
This photo was taken in Tangalle - South of Sri LankaTime
I woke up around 5am for this and had my gear all ready and then started clicking around 5.45am. This was taken between 5.45am and 6amLighting
I wanted the Sun rising from behind the trees so that i get the warm orange early morning lightEquipment
I used a Manfrotto tripod + Hoya 77mm GND filter + Canon 10-22mm UWA lens + Remote release. This was shot on my 1st ever camera - a Canon 550D - a very basic crop sensor camera. SS 1/5, f/4, ISO 400.Inspiration
I was new to photography. And i had bought my canon 550D camera may be 2 months before this click was taken. I went around London doing some test clicks and was also watching youtube videos of how to do landscape photography. So when i went on holiday to Sri Lanka i really wanted to put in to practice what ever i had learned from youtube. So this is one of my 1st ever clicks in Sri Lanka - the aperture I had set for this Landscape click is f/4 lol - sorry, I was an amateur! I should have actually set an aperture of f/11. When I got home i figured out the image wasn't as sharp as I had liked - Only then did i realize my mistake; However, this picture is my most favorite picture to date, even though I have since sold 2 of my cameras and now I use a professional Canon 5DS. This picture is a good example of "You don't need a great camera to take great pictures!"Editing
Yes i clicked RAW and did some basic post processing like increasing saturation and clarity and also increasing the shadows. In my camera bag
Canon 5DS, Canon 16-35 f/4, Canon 35mm f/1.4, Hoya GNDs, Lee CP filters, ND filters, Remote release, 4 Canon BatteriesFeedback
Planning is essential. I just didn't turn up here and click. The day before i took this click i woke up at 5am and walked around the coast and got a sense of where the sun was rising from, what time was it rising at, and at what angle was it rising. I also was looking for a large rock (like seen on this picture) so that i was able to place my UWA 10-22mm Canon lens just few inches away from the rock - so to enlarge the rock using the UWA lens. Once i selected the rock i wanted in the picture i spoke to a few locals to also get a feel of the place. Then next morning i woke up at the same time and headed to the exact place where i selected the rock; I was all set with my tripod by 5.30am - from the previous morning i knew the sunrise was going to be around 5.45am. so i started clicking from 5.45 to 6am using a remote release. The only thing i forgot to set was f/11 - It would have been an even more crispier image had i done it...but the main thing is "learning from my mistakes"
