Every spring, millions of visitors from around the world descend upon the National Mall to try to catch the peak bloom on thousands of cherry trees. The event is celebrated as the National Cherry Blossom Festival with festivities lasting a month. The original trees were gifted by the mayor of Tokyo to Washington D.C. about 100 years back.

While I have been living in the area for almost three years now, this was my first year actually "photographing" the peak bloom. I drove very early on a crisp Sunday morning and witnessed one of the most amazing sunrises.
