Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while being home in the south of Sweden. More specifically, in Fyledalen, Skåne, Sweden.

Time

It was during the day and I actually looked it up, so the exact time was 14:37:39, which explains the good lighting.

Lighting

I don't like taking photos of animals using flash so it's 100% natural daylight. To be honest, I barely never use artifical lighting.

Equipment

My good old friend: Canon 550D and it's 18-55 mm lens. I was going to use a tripod, but seeing that the poor calves seemed scared of it, I left it in the car and balanced the camera in my hands instead.

Inspiration

Well, I love all animals and these sweethearts are no exception, so of course I had to ask my mum to stop the car so I could get a shot of them. First they were a bit wary, but as I walked right up to the pasture, they all came towards me out of curiosity :)

Editing

I used Nik collection to enhance the structure and contrast somewhat.

In my camera bag

I would like to say just the most necessary so I am free and lightly packed, but that's not my case. I always bring every lens I own, my heavy tripod, the flash, all my filters and Sd-cards + 10 cleaning cloths. This is not without a reason though, I have learnt from my mistakes and it stings when you miss the shot because you didn't feel like caring that specific item, so my bag is always a painkiller - but worth it in the end.

Feedback

Just embrace every moment you come across. If you see something that might become a good shot, don't just brush it away, but actually take out the camera and take the photo. It has not been a time when I came home thinking: I shouldn't have taken that photo, but, there has been plenty of times when I have regretted not taking that photo.
