Location
This photo was taken on our ranch in northeastern Wyoming.Time
It was taken in Autumn at dusk.Lighting
The horses were being lit from behind creating a nice edge light and silhouette also giving it a nice warm hue.Equipment
The shot was taken with a Olympus E10. No tripod or flash was needed.Inspiration
In Wyoming artwork containing horses running is some of the most marketable due to the western culture. So, I guess you could say I was inspired by the setting itself, and the beauty of our horses I experienced every day.Editing
Yes. The photo in it's raw form was rather mundane visually. I used Adobe Photoshop Curves mainly to bring out the cloud formations and create the overall dramatic contrast and I adjusted the color balance to warm it up.In my camera bag
I carry a tripod, a Nikon D90 camera, with a 50mm prime, a wide angle, a telephoto, and a mid-range lense, two off camera flashes, some filters, a remote shutter release, and other various odds and ends.Feedback
Setting this shot up was the key. If you have horses available to you, get someone to chase them to a gallop in a wide circle while you shoot continuously in the center area. Late afternoon to early evening is the best time of day for the light effects. The more shots you take the better.
