A most lovely photo! Composition exactly right for capturing her 'mood'.

Location
The image was taken at the beautiful St George's Park in my hometown Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It is a wonderful place to capture some fantastic images, but you have to think out the box otherwise you can struggle to find good light.Time
We started the shoot at around 3pm and as the sun got lower we managed to capture this shot. As you can see the shadows that are caused by the big trees all around.Lighting
Natural light and placing the model in the shadows so as to get more diffusion as the light is still harsh at the time of capturing this. Natural light is still one of my favorite types of light, especially in the early morning & late afternoon.Equipment
I use a Nikon D3 with a Sigma 70-200mm @ f2.8 so as to get a good DoF.Inspiration
I was doing a portfolio shoot for the model and we needed some lifestyle type shots to add to her portfolio. This was just one of many we got on the day. There are many distracting elements in the park so I like to choose my compositions carefully. Its also important for me to get a unique perspective as the Park is used by many togs and I don't want my images to look at all like anyone elses.Editing
Very basic editing for these particular images.I added some lightening to the eyes and enhanced he highlights in her hair. Other than that, i had to crop this images so as to get rid of the distracting background. In my camera bag
My bag consists of the following: Cameras: Nikon D3 & D7100 Lenses: 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.4, 12-24mm f4.5-5.6, 24-70mm f2.8 & 70-20mm f2.8 Speedlights/Strobes: Nikon SB900 & SB910, Godox Wistro 360 and 2 LED's Sirui Tripod CamRanger & iPad Blackrapid StrapFeedback
Learning how to see and read light is one of the fundamentals of getting good images. Once you understand how to see light you will be comfortable to shoot in any conditions and in both natural light and using speedlights/stobes. Understanding the limitations of yourself and that of your equipment will also be a huge help to you. Photography is about solving problems, so the more you know about your abilities and understanding the limitations of your equipment the better you are going to get. There is only so much you can learn on your own, so be prepared to invest in a few workshops each year.
