Being a former landscaper/photographer I pulled up to my clients home one soggy, foggy morning to do some work. As I stepped out of my rig I happened to look down to find this leaf which looked as if it had been waxed. The water droplets were glimmering in the little light that was available.Time
This leaf was a lucky find one early morning. It had rained all evening and was now a light fog filled misty morning. The sun was up, but was blocked by the clouds and fog that filled the sky.Lighting
The lighting I used for this photo was simple, grab any light I can find. No flash was used to produce this photo, just all natural light.Equipment
Believe it or not, some of my best work actually came from a very simple point and shoot canon camera. I would always manipulate the settings to get the most of my subject while using this simple little camera. I personally don't think you need to spend a ton of cash do get some great photos. Here's proof.Inspiration
Working outdoors I was always on the lookout for my next subject. I am fortunate enough to be in all kinds of weather and all times of the day, this was a huge advantage to me. A subject may look "ok" in afternoon light, but catch it on a foggy day and it will give you that something special.Editing
There is usually some post editing that I do, but I really try to keep my work as original as possible. I work hard to get the photo looking its best as I press the shutter button. When I do edit I really like to keep it simple so I use Lightroom. It is a fantastic program that allows me to sharpen/soften and work the color if needed. In my camera bag
At this time I have two bags I use to carry my gear. My smaller bag which is just a case is for my Old School Canon SD750 Point and Shoot. No other items needed for this little guy. Now on the other hand I have a large arsenal in my Lowpro bag. In this bag I carry my Nikon D3 and D90 bodies. I have 3 lenses I with me, 50mm 1.8, 18-200mm 3.5 and my 70-200mm 2.8. I am looking to get a 24-70mm to complete my lineup. I also carry two speedlights with me, my SB600 and SB800. with these I use Radiopopper JR to trigger them off camera. I truly love Radiopopper JR products. Being able to get the flash off camera to add light is fantastic. Other than that, I carry extra batteries, chargers and cleaning equipment to keep me going. Oh yeah, and my Business cards to keep my funds flowing...Feedback
Best advice I have is this, don't be afraid to get outdoors during all weather conditions and learn how all your functions work on your equipment. To capture this shot I set my point and shoot to Macro and worked the camera in and out until I got what I was looking for. Practice working your angles and get your camera down to the same level of your subject.
