Sorry I can't keep up with messages.. lol.... To answer your question, I used Photoshop to create the water only, the rest was with lights and a fog machine :)

Behind The Lens

Location

This was actually taken in a studio setting in my friend's garage.

Time

Middle of the day, dark garage with door closed.

Lighting

We set up a fog machine and a gelled speedlight in the back. After letting the fog go, I triggered the speedlight and I light painted the ship with a small flashlight.

Equipment

Nikon D800, Pocket Wizard trigger, RRS tripod, Canon gelled speedlight, Nikon 24-120 lens, f/13 @ 1/60 sec, ISO 200, fog machine, cheapo pocket flashlight.

Inspiration

My friend has this cool pirate ship model that is pretty good sized, so a few of us got together and played with the lights and fog machine to get this effect.

Editing

Yes. After normal RAW file processing I used a Photoshop plug-in to creat the water effect. The boat was actually stabilized with a pile of sand on a table.

In my camera bag

LOL.... you name it, I have it!!!

Feedback

Experiment!!! No harm done to take a bunch of shots to get what you are looking for. In a controlled studio environment the possibilities are endless... AND it's so fun!!!
